Grammar and Spelling
I started my transcribing business almost seven years ago because I consider myself an exceptionally fast typist. I often receive enquiries from people hoping to become transcribers, but many of these seem to be from people with poor English.
I’ve realised over the years that there’s more to being a good transcriber than just fast fingers. Having excellent grammar and spelling is a must, as there is simply nothing more annoying than mixing up words such as there/their/they’re or it’s/its.
Also having an understanding of the subject matter that you are typing about helps enormously. Having a good ear for accents is another obstacle a transcriber has to overcome.
