Whatever work you are looking to outsource, one of the main questions you will have is how to get the best value for your money and what about cost? If you are ordering audio transcription for the first time, pricing structures can be daunting.
Prices for audio transcription will differ depending on the quality of the original material, as poor quality audio takes longer to type.
If a file is of very poor quality, time consuming and difficult to type, it is highly unlikely a client will receive back a transcript of an adequate quality. I take pride in the transcripts that I produce, therefore I would rather be honest with any of my clients and tell them – if the audio quality is poor, it is far better to spend your time re-dictating rather than wasting your money!
Standard turnaround times vary between 24 hours and fourteen days, for larger ongoing projects, this can take a few months. A 60 minute recording with one speaker can take around three to four hours to type, depending on the speed that the person talks. A group discussion with maybe eight to ten people present, with the same length of recording can take anything from four to six hours depending on accents and time taken to differentiate between the different voices. On top of all that you have the proof reading which I do at least twice. So another hour can be added on top of that.
So there it is, the ins and outs of transcription pricing. I hope that’s cleared up any confusion over how transcription companies structure their pricing.
