Transcription Pricing

Posted on 21st November 2022 • Categories: General

Where to Start:-

You have an audio file in your possession and you need it to be transcribed into a word document. Whatever work you are looking to outsource, you will always want to get the best value for money, but you shouldn’t always go for the cheapest quote. Midlands Transcription Services don’t partake in offering deals such as Black Friday, or any other marketing gimmicks. We offer quality transcripts at realistic prices, not too high to rip a client off, and not too low whereas to compromise the quality of the transcript. Quality and cost go hand in hand.

Pricing Structure:-

Pricing depends on the number of speakers and whether the recording contains vocabulary that is the specialised terminology associated with a particular field or area of activity, which is meaningless to outsiders. If a transcriptionist isn’t familiar with a particular word, i.e. a medical word such as “Arachibutyrophobia”, then they will need to look the word up and its meaning, in order to get the correct spelling, therefore adding on extra time in producing a quality transcript.

Audio Quality:-

The quality of the recording will also be taken into consideration, as poor-quality audio takes longer to type. If a file is of extremely poor quality, it becomes time consuming and difficult to transcribe, therefore it is highly unlikely a client will receive a transcript of adequate quality. Examples of poor-quality recordings include: –

1. A meeting recorded in a busy coffee shop;
2. Dictating whilst walking down a busy street with traffic noise;
3. A meeting where a number of people talk over one another;
4. Mumbling, rustling of paper, pen tapping, foot tapping, consistent coughing;
5. Secret recordings; phones hidden inside handbags or coat pockets.

Transcript Turnaround:-

Standard turnaround times vary, depending on the size of the recording. A 60-minute recording with one speaker can take around three to four hours to type, depending on the speed the person is speaking. A group discussion with between six to ten people present, with the same length of recording can take anything from four to six hours depending on accents and time taken to differentiate between the different voices. On top of all that you have the proof reading which is done at least twice. So, another hour can be added on top of that.
